Nepali constitution-drafting process to begin Tuesday

KATHMANDU, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Constituent Assembly (CA) will initiate the process of writing a new Nepali constitution on Tuesday, The Himalayan Times reported on Monday.

According to the daily, as the CA's 14 committees, which will handle drafting the contents of the new constitution, will be announced Tuesday in the CA meeting, the CA will be ready to move on with its business of drafting the constitution.

All political parties and CA members, except Bishendra Paswan of Dalit Janajati Party and independent CA member Sadarul Miya Hak, have submitted their names to the CA secretariat for the 14 committees.

The CA's 17th meeting will be held Tuesday afternoon to announce the names of the committees, said a CA source.

"The committees can hold meetings on the chairmanship of their senior-most CA members until they elect presidents," said CA spokesperson Mukunda Sharma.

In the past six-and-a-half months, the CA completed three major tasks -- announcing the nation a republic, preparing the CA regulations and electing its chairperson and vice-chairperson.

Meanwhile, almost all parties have picked major leaders to represent them in the vital committees.
